Internal renovation
Heritage Home Renovation in Williamstown in Melbourne's Inner West
20 March 2026 · Williamstown, VIC · Bunurong Country
Improving flow, storage and connection — without extending.
After purchasing their home, our clients quickly realised that key spaces weren't working as well as they could. The kitchen felt cramped and disconnected from the backyard, while the bathroom and laundry — although generously sized — were inefficiently laid out and lacked storage.
They wanted to improve how the house worked day to day, but were conscious of budget and keen to understand where their investment would have the greatest impact. Rather than extending, we focused on reworking the existing footprint.
The rear of the house was opened up and the kitchen relocated and redesigned to connect directly to the garden — turning a cramped, closed-off corner into the heart of the home.

The bathroom, ensuite and laundry were all reconfigured within their original envelope, creating a far more efficient and usable layout without adding a single square metre.

A new garden pod was also proposed at the rear of the block, providing a dedicated work-from-home space that keeps work and home life comfortably separated.
These changes have transformed how our clients use their home — making entertaining easier, improving daily flow, and delivering a layout that supports their lifestyle without unnecessary construction.
This project reflects a broader approach to renovation design in Hobsons Bay: thoughtful reworking of what's already there, before reaching for an extension.
